Paramount+’s Discretion has added Emmy nominee Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk) and Colton Ryan (The Girl from Plainville) to the legal thriller’s cast as production gets underway. Bestselling author Chandler Baker (Whisper Network, The Husbands) created the series, which is targeting a 2027 premiere.

James and Ryan join previously announced stars Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, Oscar nominee Elle Fanning, and Josh Lucas

Discretion is a legal thriller about a summer associate, Lenny (Fanning), at a prestigious Dallas law firm who uncovers a web of NDAs masking a dark truth,” reads Paramount+’s synopsis. “When she realizes she signed the same agreement, her discoveries put her in the crosshairs of the firm’s most powerful female partner, Sharon (Kidman)—upending their mentor-protégé dynamic and raising the question: who gets to keep secrets, and at what cost.”

Per Paramount+, Stephan James will play Logan, a sharp corporate associate who becomes a mentor to Lenny. Colton Ryan has joined as Boone, Lenny’s ex-boyfriend, a recovering addict from an affluent Dallas family, now nine months sober living at a halfway house while quietly trying to rebuild his life.

Chandler Baker adapted his short story and serves as writer and executive producer on the eight-episode series. Additional executive producers include Kidman, Fanning, Susannah Grant, Matt Shakman, Per Saari, Brittany Kahan Ward, Joe Hipps, and Jordan Cerf. Shakman is directing the first four episodes.

Discretion is produced by A24.
