The Diplomat‘s Rufus Sewell is among the final group of actors filling out the cast of Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice. The series, described as a faithful adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved classic novel, has just begun production in the UK.
Sewell joins the previously announced cast led by Emma Corrin (A Murder at the End of the World) as Elizabeth Bennet, Jack Lowden (Slow Horses) as Mr. Darcy, and Olivia Colman (The Crown) as Mrs. Bennet. Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) adapted Austen’s novel and Heartstopper‘s Euros Lyn is directing.
Rufus Sewell will play Mr. Bennet. Additional new cast members include Freya Mavor (Industry) as Jane Bennet, Jamie Demetriou (Barbie) as Mr. Collins, Daryl McCormack (Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery) as Mr. Bingley, and Louis Partridge (House of Guinness) as Mr. Wickham. Rhea Norwood (Heartstopper) is on board as Lydia Bennet, Siena Kelly (Black Mirror) plays Caroline Bingley, Fiona Shaw (Bad Sisters) is Lady Catherine de Bourg, Hopey Parish is Mary Bennet, and Hollie Avery is Kitty Bennet.
Rounding out the ensemble are Anjana Vasan as Mrs. Gardiner, Sebastian Armesto as Mr. Gardiner, Rosie Cavaliero as Lady Lucas, Saffron Coomber as Mrs. Hurst, James Dryden as Mr. Hurst, Justin Edwards as Sir William Lucas, James Northcote as Colonel Forster, Eloise Webb as Harriet Forster, and Isabella Sermon as Georgiana Darcy.
“Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story, and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life,” stated writer and executive producer Dolly Alderton. “With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”
Netflix hasn’t announced a target premiere date for the six-episode limited series. Emma Corrin, Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, Louise Mutter, and Euros Lyn serve as executive producers.
