Stranger Things‘ Jamie Campbell Bower and Franklin‘s Eddie Marsan are entering the fantasy world created by J.R.R. Tolkien for season three of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Prime Video did not confirm who either actor will be playing, but did say Bower joined as a series regular. Marsan joins in a recurring role.
The series premiered in September 2022, with season two following in August 2024. Season three is currently in pre-production. Filming’s expected to begin at Shepperton Studios in the UK this spring.
“Jumping forward several years from the events of season two, season three takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last,” reads Prime Video’s synopsis.
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay serve as showrunners and executive producers. Additional executive producers include Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, and Kate Hazell. Executive producer Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri, and Stefan Schwartz direct season three episodes.
