‘Schmigadoon!’ Sings Its Way Into a Second Season

The lighthearted musical comedy Schmigadoon! has been renewed for a second season by Apple TV+. Starring Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong, the music-driven series will add Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page to its cast when the show returns for season two.

Apple TV+’s renewal announcement confirmed that along with Key and Strong, Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, Martin Short, and Aaron Tveit will return for the upcoming season.

Cinco Paul co-created the series with Ken Daurio and pens the original songs for the AFI Award-winning series. Paul also serves as showrunner and Robert Luketic directs and co-executive produces. Additional executive producers include Lorne Michaels and Andrew Singer, with Cecily Strong and Caroline Maroney producing. Schmigadoon! is a Broadway Video and Universal Television production.

Season one earned Critics Choice, Grammy, and Art Directors Guild awards nominations. It was also selected as one of the top 10 television programs of 2021 by the American Film Institute.

The six-episode first season premiered on Apple TV+ on Friday, July 16, 2021. Apple TV+ has not announced when we can expect the second season to launch.

The season one plot description: “A parody of iconic Golden Age musicals, Schmigadoon! stars Strong and Key as a couple on a backpacking trip designed to reinvigorate their relationship who discover a magical town living in a 1940s musical. They then learn that they can’t leave until they find true love.”

Apple TV+ revealed season two will find Key and Strong in Schmicago, “the world of ’60s and ’70s musicals.”
