Shane West Talks ‘Salem,’ Witches, and His Character

Shane West recently finished up his starring run on Nikita and he’s now moved on to a show set in the world of 17th century witches, playing John Alden in the WGN America series Salem premiering on April 20, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT. The supernatural series posits that witches are indeed real and in control of the town of Salem, Massachusetts.

West’s character is a war-hardened veteran who returns to his hometown to find that not only has his old girlfriend married to one of the town’s most prosperous citizens but that Salem is in the midst of a witch hunt.

West said it was difficult to commit to another series, but he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to sign on to Salem. He had his choice of pilots, however, the script for Salem stood out from the pack.

“Being the supernatural and being about witches, and that being the popular thing right now, it’s just done so differently. It stands out, especially when you get past the first episode and get into the next ones. It’s truly unique,” explained West during our interview at the 2014 WonderCon in Anaheim.
