National Geographic’s annual Sharkfest kicks off on July 5, 2026 with an up-close-and-personal look at hammerhead sharks, courtesy of explorer Bertie Gregory. Hammerhead Sharks Up Close with Bertie Gregory will premiere on National Geographic at 9pm ET/PT and stream on Disney+ and Hulu.
Shark fans can also look forward to spending time with the World’s Biggest Mako and Attack of the Samurai Sharks, which explores a 3,000-year-old skeleton with bite marks. The 14th year of Sharkfest also features Shark vs. Giant Croc, which focuses on encounters between bull sharks and saltwater crocodiles.

HAMMERHEAD SHARKS UP CLOSE WITH BERTIE GREGORY
In Mexico’s Pacific waters, Bertie Gregory goes in search of one of the ocean’s most iconic predators: the hammerhead shark. Once abundant in these seas, hammerhead populations have plummeted, making sightings increasingly rare. Joining forces with leading shark scientists and local experts, Bertie investigates what’s driving the hammerhead decline and how protected waters offer hope for the future. WORLD’S BIGGEST MAKO

While endangered elsewhere on the planet, this team discovers a population of mako that might be making a comeback.
