Fox is going back-to-back with two series from Oscar nominee Lee Daniels in mid-December. The network’s planned a special music-themed night on December 14, 2016, starting with the third season fall finale of Empire at 8pm ET/PT. Immediately following Empire, Fox will air a special advance premiere of Daniels’ new series, Star, at 9pm ET/PT. Star will then take the winter holidays off and return with a premiere in its Wednesdays at 9pm ET/PT time slot beginning on January 4, 2017.

Star was co-created by Lee Daniels and Tom Donaghy who serve as executive producers along with Pamela Oas Williams and Effie Brown. Executive producer Chuck Pratt is Star‘s showrunner. The cast is led by Oscar nominee Queen Latifah and Benjamin Bratt (24: Live Another Day), and includes newcomers Jude Demorest as Star, Ryan Destiny as Alexandra, Brittany O’Grady as Simone, and Amiyah Scott as Cotton. Guest stars in season one include Lenny Kravitz, Naomi Campbell, and Tyrese Gibson.

The Plot: Featuring a soundtrack of original music and stunning music performances, Star is an emotionally powerful drama that follows three talented young singers — desperate for a new start and with ambitions of stardom — as they navigate the cut-throat music business.
