Rebel…Outcast…Jedi… Disney+’s newest Star Wars series, Ahsoka, released a one-minute teaser to announce the much-anticipated series’ premiere date. The streaming service also unveiled three new photos from the sci-fi series starring Rosario Dawson in the title role.
The one-minute video features Ahsoka Tano revealing she’s been hearing rumors of Thrawn’s return as the heir to the Empire. Ahsoka notes that the Jedi fell a long time ago and there aren’t many left alive. Huyang replies, “Perhaps it is time to begin again.”
Ahsoka will premiere on August 23, 2023.
Joining Rosario Dawson are Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll (who suddenly passed away on May 21, 2023), and Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati. Diana Lee Inosanto plays Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant is Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen is Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Eman Esfandi is Ezra Bridger.

Ahsoka was originally voiced by Ashley Eckstein in the 2008 animated feature film Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Eckstein continued to voice the character for seven seasons of The Clone Wars, as well as other animated projects. In an interview with EW, Dawson said she watched the animated productions and Eckstein’s performance is the template for the live-action Ahsoka.
“You have this volume and work and performance to go back to,” said Dawson, “and these memories and reflections and The Clone Wars and Rebels with the work that Ashley did. We got to watch her grow and develop, and see the heart and the energy and the passion and the love that Ashley has brought to this character.”
Disney+’s short description of the new series: “Set after the fall of the Empire, Star Wars: Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.”
