The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Behind the Scenes Video Featuring the Voice Cast

Netflix’s much-anticipated The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is set to premiere on August 30, 2019. With the debut just 10 days away, Netflix has released a new behind-the-scenes video featuring the voice cast as well as the series creators.

Executive producer Lisa Henson explains this is a prequel and takes place during a period in which the Gelfling had a “rich and prosperous civilization.” Henson realizes The Dark Crystal still holds a special place in the hearts of millions of fans, which is why they wanted to revisit that original world.

During the two and a half minute video, Simon Pegg reveals he watched Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal in the same theater he saw Star Wars, ET, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. “I just remember it being quite an overwhelming experience. Another one of those movies where you come out of the cinema slightly changed.”

Game of Thrones‘ Natalie Dormer calls the world of The Dark Crystal all-encompassing and vivid, placing it in the same league as Westeros, Pandora, and Middle-Earth.

“Rian is the son of the Captain of the Guard,” says Taron Egerton, describing his character. “He witnesses something horrific. He basically has to go on this quest to set things right and make everyone aware of what’s really going on.”

Season one consists of 10 one-hour episodes directed by Louis Leterrier. Leterrier, Lisa Henson, and Halle Stanford serve as executive producers. Jeffrey Addiss, Will Matthews, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, and Blanca Lista are co-executive producers, with Ritamarie Peruggi producing.
