Netflix’s teaser trailer for the critically acclaimed drama The Diplomat promises spicy fights, a possible war, and conspiracy at the highest level of government. So, basically, it’s just your normal day in Washington, DC. The streamer also announced that the eight-episode fourth season will premiere on October 15, 2026, and released new photos.
Keri Russell returns to lead the series as Ambassador Kate Wyler, Rufus Sewell is Vice President Hal Wyler, Allison Janney plays President Grace Penn, and Bradley Whitford is Todd Penn. Rory Kinnear plays Nico Trowbridge, Ato Essandoh is Stuart Heyford, Ali Ahn is Eidra Park, and Nana Mensah is Billie Appiah.
“This season is built on the foursome that is Kate, Hal, Grace, and Todd. They’re two couples strapped together in one car on a crumbling roller coaster,” stated creator, showrunner, and executive producer Debora Cahn. “Each of them has a professional, public role that’s upending their ability to function as a married person. And there’s a change-partners thing that happens, where the growing bond between Grace and Hal creates a not-so-functional alliance between Kate and Todd.”
Additional executive producers include Keri Russell, Janice Williams, Alex Graves, Peter Noah, and Eli Attie.

“In season four of The Diplomat, two marriages threaten to eat each other alive. One catastrophic moment shatters the fragile peace Kate Wyler brokered between the US and UK, as well as the crumbling marriage she’s trying to save.
While she fights to stem the bleeding, President Grace Penn and VP Hal Wyler’s conspiracy to steal Russia’s most powerful weapon hurtles the United States toward war. Kate and Todd, at best an uneasy pair, unite to stop the Grace-Hal alliance from upending the balance of power abroad and at home.”
Season one premiered in April 2023, followed by season two in October 2024 and season three in October 2025. The popular drama has earned 10 Emmy nominations, six Critics Choice Awards nominations, and six Actor Awards.
