‘The Good Cop’ Stars Tony Danza and Josh Groban Discuss Their New Series

Tony Danza and Josh Groban team up as father and son in Netflix’s new series, The Good Cop. The series is set to premiere on September 21, 2018 and in the new nearly five minute video, Danza describes the show as having an old school vibe.

“Watching Columbo…that’s what our show is kind of. It’s a throwback to those kind of shows, like a procedural but it’s a mystery,” explained Tony Danza while cooking up stuffed artichoke.

Josh Groban added, “I like the mystery aspect of our show. How are we going to get ourselves out of this perfect murder? Every single episode has been such an adventure. Whatever the murder is, whatever the mystery is, takes us to a new world, a new environment. And, it’s fun for the whole family.”

The cast of the new cop series also includes Monica Barbaro (Splitting Up Together), Isiah Whitlock Jr (The Old Man and the Gun), and Bill Kottkamp (Father of the Year).

Andy Breckman (Monk) is the season one showrunner. Breckman also serves as an executive producer along with Randy Zisk (Bones, Monk), and Howard Klein (The Office, The Mindy Project). Series star Tony Danza serves as a producer on the show. The Netflix original production is inspired by a format from Israeli production company YES, with YES involved as executive producers.

The Good Cop Plot:

“In The Good Cop, Tony Danza plays Tony Sr., a lovable yet not exactly honorable, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, Tony Jr., Josh Groban, a brilliant, straight-laced NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules while solving Brooklyn’s toughest cases. This “odd couple” become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his overly-cautious son blunt, street-wise advice.”
