The Spy Trailer and Poster: Sacha Baron Cohen Stars in the Limited Series

Netflix just released the official trailer for The Spy, a new limited series starring Sacha Baron Cohen (Who is America?). The two minute trailer introduces Sacha Baron Cohen in the title role, confirming the comedic actor took a deep dramatic dive for this Netflix production.

Netflix has set a September 6, 2019 premiere date for the six-episode one-hour limited series.

In addition to Sacha Baron Cohen, the cast of the thriller includes Noah Emmerich (The Americans), Hadar Ratzon Rotem (Homeland), and Waleed Zuaiter (Colony).

The series is based on the real-life story of former Mossad agent, Eli Cohen. The Spy was written and directed by Emmy Award winner Gideon Raff (Prisoners of War, Homeland and Tyrant). Max Perry co-wrote episodes three, four, five, and six. Alain Goldman (La Vie en Rose) and Légende Films produced the limited series.

The Plot, Courtesy of Netflix:

“In the 1960s, Israeli clerk-turned-secret agent Eli Cohen goes deep undercover inside Syria on a perilous, years-long mission to spy for Mossad.

The series stars Emmy-nominated Sacha Baron Cohen as Cohen, a man who wants nothing more than to be of service to his country, but he does his job so well that he finds it hard to strip off his double identity. Noah Emmerich plays Dan Peleg, Eli’s Mossad handler who tries to ease his own guilt over the sacrifices Eli makes, Hadar Ratzon Rotem portrays Eli’s wife, Nadia, who is left to raise their family on her own and knows something isn’t right about her husband’s government job, and Waleed Zuaiter plays Amin Al-Hafez, a military officer who thinks he’s found the perfect ally in the undercover Cohen.”
