Tim Griffin says that unlike some series that don’t reveal the answer to the puzzle by the end of season one, viewers who tune in to watch Fox’s Wayward Pines will not be left hanging. But Griffin also promises that the series, based on Blake Crouch’s books, will leave you guessing throughout the show’s limited run and that characters will not be who you assume they are after watching episode one.

During our interview at this year’s WonderCon, Griffin attempted not to give too much away while discussing the mystery thriller executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan (he also directed the first episode). What Griffin could reveal is that the cast is fantastic and that’s just one of the reasons people should tune in.

“This series, the caliber of people that they got to do it I actually really didn’t think it was possible. And everybody’s got a different approach, so watching the fireworks happen with actors… You know, I’ve been a part of many ensembles but usually like if George Clooney’s going to direct something, he’s going to hire like-minded actors. He has sort of a very clear policy to make sure you put people in a room who will all work well with each other. Here, everybody works great together but everybody has a real different approach. A real different approach and so it can lead to some real fantastic fireworks that happen. […]You know, you’ve got Melissa Leo, Terrence Howard, Matt Dillon – people that I would pay just to see individually, all of them, and then they’re all together and it’s really great.”

Griffin also talked about the show’s tone, working with M. Night Shyamalan, and what audiences can expect from Wayward Pines:

The Plot:

Wayward Pines is an intense, mind-bending 10-episode thriller starring Academy Award nominee Matt Dillon as a Secret Service agent on a mission to find two missing federal agents in the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, ID. Every step closer to the truth makes him question if he will ever get out of Wayward Pines alive.
