HBO’s announcement was delayed but at least it’s now official. IT: Welcome to Derry, set in Stephen King’s IT universe, will return for season two.
HBO didn’t confirm a target premiere date for the new season. The cast hasn’t been announced for the new season, which will be set in a different time period than season one and focus on a different Derry story. According to the network, season two “takes place in 1935 during the Great Depression and centers on the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammo and end up facing unimaginable horror.”
“Continuing to explore and expand on the amazing world Stephen King created is an absolute privilege. The support of our partners at HBO and Warner Bros. Television is priceless. Boy do we love our jobs!” stated executive producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti.
Brad Caleb Kane is the showrunner and serves as an executive producer along with Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jamie Travis, and Dhana Gilbert.
“We are excited to return to the chilling world of Derry and to further expand on Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s horrifically iconic adaptation,” said Sarah Aubrey, Head of HBO Max Original Programming. “Together with Brad Caleb Kane, they will break new ground in season two, deepening the terror, the mystery, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore that fans love to devour.”
Season one premiered in October 2025 and currently sits at 80% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
