‘Building the Band’ Preview: Trailer, Photos, and Plot Details

Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean hosts Netflix’s new musical reality competition series Building the Band. The 10-episode season showcases up-and-coming singers as they attempt to bond with strangers and form a band that clicks.

The Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger serves as a mentor and judge. Kelly Rowland (Destiny’s Child) and the late Liam Payne (One Direction) serve as guest judges, beginning with episode seven.

Building the Band brings together talented singers for a truly unique competition show where building the perfect band is all about chemistry. The singers are in complete control as they seek to form their very own bands in individual ‘booths’ without ever seeing each other,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. “All they have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry, and merit. What will happen when the bands finally meet and looks, choreography, and style come into play? With incredible performances, compelling drama, and one big goal—to find the next great music band—the stage is set for an unforgettable experience.”

Season one premieres on July 9, 2025 with the release of the first four episodes. Episodes five through seven drop on July 16, followed by episodes eight, nine, and 10 on July 23.
