‘NCIS’ Cast Support the Be The Match Bone Marrow Campaign

Be The Match

Three of the stars of CBS’s NCIS are taking part in the National Marrow Donor Program’s “Be The Match” awareness campaign, participating in 30-second spots encouraging the public to become “heroes” by joining the bone marrow registry or by donating toward the cost of “genetic testing required to add each new person to the registry.”

The TV spots include a statement from NCIS‘ Michael Weatherly:

“Every 10 minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer,” says Weatherly.

Weatherly’s NCIS co-stars Rocky Carroll and Cote de Pablo also take part in the TV spots and help to explain how joining the Be The Match Registry takes only a quick swab of your cheek.

The focus of the TV spots is to show the need for more donors from the African American, Hispanic, and Asian communities to become involved. According to the NMDP, there are not enough “young registry members of diverse racial and ethnic heritage to help all patients in need of a marrow transplant.”

“Encouraging more people of color to help save a life has been a key focus for us for many years,” said Jeffrey W. Chell, M.D., chief executive officer of the National Marrow Donor Program. “Our campaign on local CBS television stations takes a new direction, highlighting the importance of DNA matching by featuring actors best known to Americans as forensic investigators.”
