Box Office Report: ‘A Quiet Place’ Returns to the Top Spot

A Quiet Place held off I Feel Pretty and Super Troopers 2, as well as reigning champ Rampage, to return to the top spot at the box office after finishing second last weekend. The horror/thriller from writer/director John Krasinski has rung up an impressive $132 million domestically since opening in theaters on April 6, 2018. According to Box Office Mojo, that figure makes it the seventh largest grossing horror/supernatural film in domestic box office history.

The weekend’s new releases – comedies I Feel Pretty and Super Troopers 2 – exceeded box office expectations. Neither film impressed critics, with I Feel Pretty resting at a 34% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and Super Troopers 2 at 35%, but that didn’t stop moviegoers from buying tickets. Super Troopers 2, the long-awaited sequel to 2001’s Super Troopers, proved the Broken Lizard team still has a lot of fans willing to fork over money to check out their R-rated antics on the big screen.

A Quiet Place will be giving up its #1 spot next weekend to the jam-packed superhero film, Avengers: Infinity War. The PG-13 comic book-inspired film will open in theaters on April 27, 2018 and is expected to break multiple records over its first weekend and subsequent theatrical run. It’s possible what’s being called the ultimate cross-over film will open in the $220 million range, but it will take a $248 million domestic opening weekend to earn the top rank on the all-time biggest opening weekend list. That title is currently held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $247 million.
