John Green Earns MTVU Fandom Award

Author John Green will be honored at the mtvU Fandom Awards to be held during the MTV Fan Fest at Petco Park in downtown San Diego. The event, which will take place on Thursday, July 24, 2014 during Comic Con, will feature Green being presented with the first-ever Visionary Award. For those who can’t make it to San Diego for Comic Con, MTV and mtvU will be airing the mtvU Fandom Awards Special on Sunday, July 27 at 8pm ET/PT.

Green’s books include The Fault in Our Stars, Looking for Alaska, An Abundance of Katherines, Paper Towns, and Will Grayson, Will Grayson, and Green’s being presented with the Visionary Award honor for his work in moving and inspiring readers. “Green is much beloved by his fandom not only for his best-selling novels, but also for his supreme social media engagement which birthed a community of devoted fans called “nerdfighters” – MTV.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum will present the award to Green. And speaking of Tatum, her hubby, Channing, will join Diego Luna on stage to introduce a clip from The Book of Life from Guillermo del Toro. And Chloe Grace Moretz will have the honor of introducing a clip from If I Stay, also during the mtvU Fandom Awards. Other celebs scheduled to appear include Kellan Lutz, Rob Riggle, Dan Harmon, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, Orlando Jones, Retta, Steven Yeun, Molly Tarlov, Michael Willet, and Nathan Kress.


“I am lucky enough to have been a member of some sort of fandom at every stage in my life, so receiving this award means a great deal to me,” said John Green. “The communities of people who unironically love a television show, or a movie, or a game, or a singer, or a book know how meaningful, supportive, and creative fandom can be. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read my books and for the support the TFiOS movie has received this summer.”
