Ad Astra IMAX Trailer: Brad Pitt is Out of This World

20th Century Fox just released a special IMAX trailer for the sci-fi adventure film, Ad Astra. The new two and a half minute trailer begins with Brad Pitt as Astronaut Roy McBride explaining he’s chosen this profession to honor his father. Next, we see McBride in space taking part in a psychological exam while climbing outside the spacecraft. He promises to remain calm and focused, but the events that unfold next in the latest trailer seem to argue against that statement.

In addition to five-time Oscar nominee (and winner of an Oscar for producing 12 Years a Slave) Brad Pitt, the cast of the space drama includes Oscar winner Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive), Oscar nominee Ruth Negga (Loving), Liv Tyler (Harlots, The Leftovers), and Donald Sutherland (Trust, Measure of a Man).

Ad Astra was written and directed by James Gray (The Lost City of Z, We Own the Night), with Ethan Gross co-writing. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, James Gray, Anthony Katagas, Rodrigo Teixeira, and Arnon Milchan served as producers.

Writer/director James Gray’s behind the scenes team includes director of photography Hoyte Van Hoytema, editors John Axelrad and Lee Haugen, production designer Kevin Thompson, and costume designer Albert Wolsky. According to the studio, Gray collaborated with his director of photography to “establish a look for the movie based on Kodak stock images from the Apollo 11 through 17 lunar missions.”

Walt Disney Studios will release the 20th Century Fox production on September 20, 2019.

The Plot:

“Astronaut Roy McBride (Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.”
