‘Ben is Back’ Teaser Trailer: Julia Roberts and Lucas Hedges Star in the 2018 Drama

The first official teaser trailer for Ben is Back is only 55 seconds long and doesn’t provide much in the way of details about the dramatic film. It does, however, show Ben Burns (played by Lucas Hedges) returning home much to the surprise of his mother (played by Julia Roberts).

In addition to Oscar winner Julia Roberts (Best Actress in a Leading Role, Erin Brockovich) and Oscar nominee Lucas Hedges (Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Manchester by the Sea), the cast includes Emmy Award winner Courtney B. Vance (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie, American Crime Story), and Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies).

Oscar nominee Peter Hedges (Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay, About a Boy) wrote and directed the drama. Hedges also produced along with Nina Jacobson, Teddy Schwarzman, and Brad Simpson. Jane Nerlinger Evans, Dan Friedkin, Micah Green, Michael Heimler, Mickey Liddell, Pete Shilaimon, Daniel Steinman, and Ben Stillman executive produced.

The behind the scenes team includes director of photography Stuart Dryburgh and editor Ian Blume, with music by Dickon Hinchliffe.

LD Entertainment, Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have set a December 7, 2018 theatrical release date.

The Plot: Ben Is Back is a drama that follows the charming, yet troubled, Ben Burns (Hedges) who returns home to his unsuspecting family one fateful Christmas Eve. Ben’s wary mother, Holly Burns (Roberts) welcomes her beloved son’s return, but soon learns that he is still very much in harm’s way. During the 24-hours that may change their lives forever, Holly must do everything in her power to avoid the family’s downfall.

Ben is Back shows us how far we will go to protect the ones we love. Courtney B. Vance plays Roberts’ husband and stepfather to Hedges. His philosophy on how to handle her son’s return puts him at direct odds with his wife.
