‘Bumblebee’ Trailer: The Transforming VW Springs Into Action

Bumblebee’s on a mission to protect Earth and its people in the new official trailer for the Transformers spinoff. Paramount Pictures’ full trailer shows a teenager (played by Hailee Steinfeld) learning about the true nature of a rundown Volkswagen bug. The latest trailer also provides a glimpse at the action, the effects, and first time live-action feature film director Travis Knight’s vision for what a Michael Bay-less Transformers film will look like.

Knight’s the CEO of Laika Entertainment and is best known for directing the critically acclaimed animated film, Kubo and the Two Strings, which was nominated for two Oscars (Best Achievement in Visual Effects, Best Animated Feature Film of the Year). Bumblebee marks the first film of the Transformers franchise not directed by Michael Bay, however he remained involved as a producer. Lorenzo di Bonaventura also served as a producer, with Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner, Chris Brigham, and Mark Vahradian executive producing.

The cast includes Hailee Steinfeld (Edge of Seventeen), Pamela Adlon (Better Things), John Cena (Trainwreck), Stephen Schneider (Broad City), and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Spider-Man: Homecoming). Jason Drucker (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul), John Ortiz (The Cloverfield Paradox), Kenneth Choi (American Crime Story), Ricardo Hoyos (DeGrassi: Next Class), Abby Quinn (The Sisterhood of the Night), Rachel Crow (Deidra & Laney Rob a Train), and Grace Dzienny (Zoo) also star in the 2018 big-budget action film inspired by the popular transforming Hasbro toys.

Paramount Pictures has set a December 21, 2018 theatrical release date.

The Bumblebee Plot:

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
