Destination Wedding has just released what could be the best romantic comedy trailer to come along in years. The two minute trailer finds Keanu Reeves (the John Wick film franchise) and Winona Ryder (Netflix’s Stranger Things) playing wedding guests who detest pretty much everything about the wedding they’re forced to attend. They especially detest the fact they’re pushed into sharing this experience together.
“Do you believe that there’s someone for everyone?” asks Ryder’s character, Lindsay. “Close. I believe that there’s nobody for anyone,” replies Reeves’ Frank.
Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder’s first onscreen pairing came in 1992’s critically acclaimed horror film, Dracula, which had Gary Oldman in the titular role. Reeves and Ryder also had roles in 2006’s A Scanner Darkly from writer/director Richard Linklater and 2009’s The Private Lives of Pippa Lee from writer/director Rebecca Miller.
Destination Wedding was written and directed by Victor Levin. Levin’s best known as a writer on the sitcom Mad About You and the television drama Survivor’s Remorse. The 2018 release was produced by Gail Lyon, Elizabeth Dell, and Robert Jones.
Regatta’s planning an August 24, 2018 release in select theaters.
The Plot: Destination Wedding reunites two of Hollywood’s most adored stars, Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder, as the socially awkward Frank and Lindsay. When they meet on their way to a destination wedding, they soon discover they have a lot in common: they both hate the bride, the groom, the wedding, themselves, and most especially each other. As the weekend’s events continually force them together – and their cheerlessness immediately isolates them from the other guests – Frank and Lindsay find that if you verbally spar with someone long enough, anything can happen. When debate gives way to desire, they must decide which is stronger: their hearts or their common sense.
