The first teaser for Eden opens peacefully enough but quickly pivots to terror. Compounding the horror is the fact the thriller’s based on a true story.
The R-rated drama stars two-time Oscar nominee Jude Law (Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr. Ripley), Oscar nominee Ana de Armas (Blonde), Oscar nominee Vanessa Kirby (soon to be seen in The Fantastic Four: First Steps), Daniel Brühl, and two-time Emmy nominee Sydney Sweeney (The White Lotus, Euphoria). Two-time Oscar winner Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) directs, and Noah Pink wrote the screenplay. Producers include Howard, Brian Grazer, Karen Lunder, Stuart Ford, William M. Connor, and Patrick Newall.
Vertical offered this synopsis: “Director Ron Howard’s Eden unravels the shocking true story of a group of disillusioned outsiders who abandon civilization, settling on a remote, uninhabited island only to discover that the greatest threat isn’t the brutal climate or deadly wildlife, but each other. As tensions spiral and desperation takes hold, a twisted power struggle unfolds, leading to betrayal, violence, and the deaths of half the colony.”
Eden opens in theaters on August 22, 2025.
