Lionsgate’s unveiled new character posters for the R-rated suspense thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow. Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, stars in and co-wrote the screenplay, and apparently the film finds the four-time Grammy winner playing a version of himself.

“This experience was really introspective and cathartic for me,” stated Tesfaye in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “From writing to production and through post — I realized just how much of a catalyst this art form can be for conversations about our emotions, mental health, and vulnerabilities.”

The film also stars Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) and Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin). Tesfaye, Ortega, and Keoghan are featured on the just-released red and black character posters.

Lionsgate’s very basic synopsis reads, “A musician plagued by insomnia is pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence.” Trey Edward Shults (It Comes at Night) directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Tesfaye and Reza Fahim. Tesfaye, Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss serve as producers.

Lionsgate has set a May 16, 2025 theatrical release date for the thriller that shares a title with The Weeknd’s sixth album.
