‘Luther’ Film Starring Idris Elba Gets New Title and Photos

The much-anticipated Luther film starring Idris Elba has an official title: Luther: The Fallen Sun. Netflix just announced the title and released three new photos from the upcoming feature film which is described as “a continuation of the award-winning television saga.”

Luther premiered in 2010 and earned 11 Primetime Emmy nominations over its five-season run. In addition, Elba won Screen Actors Guild and Critics Choice awards, as well as two Image Awards (NAACP) for his lead performance as detective John Luther.

Luther: The Fallen Sun stars Elba, Dermot Crowley reprising his role as Martin Schenk, two-time Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo (Harriet), and Emmy nominee Andy Serkis (Little Dorrit).

Emmy nominee Jamie Payne (The Alienist) directs from a screenplay by Luther series creator Neil Cross. Elba, Cross, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and David Ready produce, with Dan Finlay, Brendan Ferguson, Miki Emmerich, Kris Thykier, and Priscilla Parish executive producing.

Netflix is targeting a March 2023 premiere.

In Luther: The Fallen Sun a gruesome serial killer is terrorizing London while brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther (Elba) sits behind bars. Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.
