Marvel Studios’ much-anticipated panel at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con didn’t disappoint. Fans in the packed-to-capacity Hall H were the first to learn two major casting announcements. Marvel, as expected, loaded the stage with A-list talent from Avengers: Doomsday and pulled off two big surprises with news on upcoming projects.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige broke the news by confirming the rumor that Ryan Gosling, hot off Project Hail Mary, will add his first comic book film adaptation to his resume with Ghost Rider. Gosling joined Feige on stage at Hall H to reveal he’s going to be living out his dream of playing Johnny Blaze / Ghost Rider. Gosling will be reuniting with his Star Wars: Starfighter director Shawn Levy for the project, and Marvel Studios is targeting a 2028 theatrical release. Star Wars: Starfighter‘s Jonathan Tropper is writing the script.
The Hall H audience was also the first to learn about plans for Black Panther 3. Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever writer/director Ryan Coogler took the stage to talk about plans for the third film in the franchise. The Oscar-winning filmmaker was joined by Letitia Wright and Winston Duke to welcome the new Black Panther, David Jonsson. Jonsson, whose impressive resume includes Alien: Romulus, Industry, and The Long Walk, will play T’Challa’s son.
“I want to say thank you so much. Thank you, Ryan. Thank you, Kevin. Thank you to this amazing family that I have the honor and privilege and the blessing to join,” said Jonsson. “But believe me, the honor is entirely mine. Thank you.”
Black Panther 3 will open in theaters on December 15, 2028.
