Here’s hoping the most hilarious moments aren’t in the over-the-top, action-packed trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ Meg 2: The Trench. The stunts have a Fast and Furious feel – they are implausible yet impressive – and the plot surpasses the first film, The Meg (2018), in terms of megalodon encounters. In the original movie, Jason Statham battled a colossal sea creature, but in the sequel, there are not one, not two, but three Megs for Statham and crew to take on.
Statham’s joined in this wild adventure by Wu Jing, Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Skyler Samuels, and Cliff Curtis.
The original The Meg was directed by Jon Turteltaub, but it’s Ben Wheatley (In the Earth, Free Fire) who takes over the reins for the sequel. The Meg‘s Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Dean Georgaris wrote the screenplay, based on Steve Alten’s novel The Trench. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Belle Avery serve as producers, with Statham, Cate Adams, Ruigang Li, Catherine Xujun Ying, Wu Jing, E. Bennett Walsh, Erik Howsam, Gerald R. Molen, and Randy Greenberg executive producing.
Warner Bros. Pictures will release the sequel in North American theaters on August 4, 2023 and internationally on August 2nd.
