Screen Gems is showing off four new photos from The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones directed by Harald Zwart and based on the first book in Cassandra Clare’s bestselling series. Set for release on August 23, 2013, the fantasy adventure stars Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Lena Headey.

The cast also includes Robert Sheehan, Kevin Zegers, Kevin Durand, Aidan Turner, Jemima West, Godfrey Gao, CCH Pounder, Jared Harris, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

The Plot:

Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Collins), discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother (Headey), Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.
