Filmmaker Peter Berg (Lone Survivor) reunites with Friday Night Lights author and lifelong friend Buzz Bissinger on an adaptation of Bissinger’s The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II. Netflix just released the first batch of official photos from Berg’s film adaptation, which will premiere in theaters on October 30, 2026.
Following its theatrical release, the World War II drama based on true events will stream on Netflix beginning November 25.
The Mosquito Bowl ensemble is led by Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgård, Ray Nicholson, Tom Francis, Brent Comer, and Dominic Bogart. Berg and Mark L. Smith adapted Bissinger’s 2022 book, with Berg, Brian Grazer, and Alex Gayner serving as producers.
“Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, four of America’s top College Football stars set their fame aside to enlist in the Marines,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. “As they prepare for the brutal invasion of Okinawa, they’ll play in a legendary game featuring some of the greatest players in history – a game that, for many, will be the last they ever play.”
In a recent interview with Esquire, Berg explained what he’s hoping to do by bringing this particular World War II story to the screen. “What we’re aspiring to do with The Mosquito Bowl is take the audience on an immersive, visceral experience through the eyes of these four young men into the realities of war, the horrors of war—without politicizing it,” said Berg.
Author Bissinger, Ezra Emanuel, and Jeb Brody are executive producers.
