John Tuggle’s incredibly inspirational and heartbreaking life is the subject of Paramount Pictures’ Mr. Irrelevant. Superman‘s David Corenswet stars as the NFL player who overcame all odds to earn a spot on the New York Giants’ roster, only to have a devastating illness cut short his career.
Joining Corenswet are Isabel May, David Krumholtz, Tuwaine Barrett, and Thaddeus LaGrone. Alexander England, Spencer House, Tandi Wright, and Michael Shannon also star.
Mr. Irrelevant opens in theaters on Christmas Day.
“Mr. Irrelevant is the inspiring true story of John Tuggle (Corenswet), the last player selected in the last round of the 1983 NFL draft by the New York Giants,” reads Paramount’s synopsis. “A true underdog, Tuggle defied expectations on the field and off for his then first-year head coach, Bill Parcells (Shannon), his newfound love (May), and his team, proving that remarkable hope and perseverance can transcend even the greatest challenges.”
Nick Santora (Reacher, Most Dangerous Game) wrote the screenplay and Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies, 50/50) directs. Santora, Levine, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and Gillian Bohrer are the producers. Executive producers include Jesse Sisgold, Jason T. Reed, Sandino Moya-Smith, Stan Wlodkowski, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, Andrew Lary, Ross Ketover, Ken Rodgers, and Jessica Boddy.
