Netflix launched the first teaser for Ink, based on the Tony Award-winning play about the creation of Britain’s tabloid newspaper, The Sun. The teaser’s tagline declares, “They broke the news that changed the world,” which very mildly describes what Rupert Murdoch did.
Jack O’Connell (Sinners) stars as Larry Lamb, Guy Pearce (The Brutalist) plays Rupert Murdoch, and Claire Foy (The Crown) stars as Jules Davies. The film, adapted by James Graham from his critically acclaimed play, had its premiere at the 2026 Venice International Film Festival and will open in theaters on December 11.
Ink streams on Netflix beginning January 8, 2027.
Netflix’s synopsis reads, “The film is an explosive cinematic rollercoaster about a group of visionaries and misfits who had an idea for a new kind of news — one that would give the people what they want and would change the face of the world we live in today.”
Oscar-winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) directs and serves as a producer along with Tracey Seaward, Tessa Ross, and Michael Ellenberg. Executive producers include Graham, Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Joe Naftalin, Tonia Davis, Zoë Edwards, James Graham, and Sudie Smyth.
The streamer’s release date and teaser trailer release included new photos from the film.
