Bleecker Street’s debuted a new TV spot from the dramatic thriller, Papillon. The new video titled “Escape” is action-packed and features Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) and Rami Malek (Mr. Robot, the upcoming Bohemian Rhapsody) as prisoners locked up for life on Devil’s Island.
In addition to Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek, the cast of Papillon includes one of Hunnam’s Sons of Anarchy co-stars, Tommy Flanagan. Yorick Van Wageningen (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Roland Moller (Atomic Blonde), and Eve Hewson (The Knick) are also featured in the thriller.
2018’s Papillon is based on the bestselling books from Henri “Papillon” Charrière, with Aaron Guzikoswski (Prisoners) adapting Charrière’s work for the screen. Michael Noer (Northwest) directed the new version of the story which will be heading to theaters with an R rating for “violence including bloody images, language, nudity, and some sexual material.”
Noer’s behind the scenes team includes director of photography Hagen Bogdanski, editors John Axelrad and Lee Haugen, production designer Tom Meyer, and costume designer Bojana Nikitovic, with music by David Buckley. Ram Bergman, Roger Corbi, David Koplan, and Joey McFarland produced the film. Terence Chang, Danny Dimbort, Yan Fisher-Romanovsky, Samuel Hadida, Martin Hellstern, Joshua D. Maurer, Christian Mercuri, and Kevan Van Thompson served as executive producers.
Bleecker Street will be releasing Papillon in theaters on August 24, 2018.
The Plot: Based on the international best-selling autobiographic books Papillon and Banco, the film follows the epic story of Henri “Papillon” Charrière (Charlie Hunnam), a safecracker from the Parisian underworld who is framed for murder and condemned to life in the notorious penal colony on Devil’s Island. Determined to regain his freedom, Papillon forms an unlikely alliance with a convicted counterfeiter Louis Dega (Rami Malek), who in exchange for protection, agrees to finance Papillon’s escape.
