Awkwafina needs to come up with a way to earn some quick cash in the trailer for Quiz Lady, a new comedy from director Jessica Yu (In Treatment, This Is Us). Fortunately, she’s got skills that make her the perfect quiz show contestant and a pushy sister (Sandra Oh) who won’t let those skills go to waste.
The sibling road-trip comedy also stars Jason Schwartzman, Holland Taylor, Tony Hale, and Will Ferrell. Jen D’Angelo wrote the screenplay and Awkwafina, Sandra Oh, Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, Maggie Haskins, Itay Reiss, and Jen D’Angelo produced, with Alex Brown and Erika Hampson executive producing.
20th Century Studios will premiere the comedy at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2023. It will stream on Hulu beginning November 3rd.
The Plot:
“In Quiz Lady, a brilliant but tightly wound, gameshow-obsessed young woman, Anne (Awkwafina), and her estranged, train-wreck of a sister Jenny (Oh), must work together to help cover their mother’s gambling debts. When Anne’s beloved dog is kidnapped, they set out on a wild, cross-country trek to get the cash the only way they know how: by turning Anne into a bona-fide gameshow champion.”
