At the end of the one minute teaser trailer for Rocketman we’re informed the story is based on a “true fantasy.” The music-driven film is described as a musical fantasy and stars Taron Egerton as Sir Elton John. Egerton performed Elton John’s songs for the Paramount Pictures release which has Elton John on board as an executive producer.

“There are moments in a rock star’s life that define who he is. Where there was darkness, there is now you. And it’s going to be a wild ride,” says Egerton as Elton John in the film’s first official teaser. The first-look video dropped just days after the unveiling of a photo showing Egerton as Elton.

In addition to Taron Egerton (the Kingsman movies), the cast includes TURN‘s Jamie Bell, Game of Thrones‘ Richard Madden, Gemma Jones (Madam Pomfrey in the Harry Potter films), and Jurassic World‘s Bryce Dallas Howard.

Filming is currently underway with Dexter Fletcher (Eddie the Eagle) directing. Fletcher recently wrapped up work on the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer left the project following troubles on the set.

Rocketman is produced by Matthew Vaughn, David Furnish, Adam Bohling, and David Reid. Elton John, Steve Hamilton Shaw, Michael Gracey, and Claudia Schiffer serve as executive producers.

During a March 2018 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Elton John’s husband, producer David Furnish, discussed Elton’s advice to Egerton on stepping into Elton’s shoes. “Elton has told Taron, ‘Don’t copy me. Don’t think you have to sing it exactly the way that I sang it. Don’t think you have to perform it the way I performed it.’ I think it’s the challenge for the actor to embody the spirit and not get into thinking they have to do an impersonation,” said Furnish.

The Basic Rocketman Plot:

Rocketman is an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years, starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard.”
