The official trailer for Paramount Animation’s 2025 Smurfs kicks off with Rihanna in the recording booth, followed by a scene of Smurfette dancing and singing with her fellow weird blue creatures. The smurfs are just having a good time when suddenly Papa Smurf is kidnapped, which kicks off a rescue mission.
The voice cast of the family-friendly film also includes James Corden, Nick Offerman, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, and Sandra Oh. Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, Marshmello, Kurt Russell, and John Goodman also lend their voices to the latest addition to the long-running franchise.
“When Papa Smurf (Goodman) is mysteriously taken by evil wizards, Razamel and Gargamel, Smurfette (Rihanna) leads the Smurfs on a mission into the real world to save him,” reads Paramount Animation’s synopsis. “With the help of new friends, the Smurfs must discover what defines their destiny to save the universe.”
The film’s based on the characters and works of Peyo. Chris Miller (Puss in Boots, Shrek the Third) directs from a screenplay by Pam Brady. Jay Brown, Ty Ty Smith, Robyn Rihanna Fenty, and Ryan Harris serve as producers, with Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary executive produce.
Smurfs opens in theaters on July 18, 2025.
