‘The Silent Twins’ Trailer: Sisters Share a Unique Relationship

Focus Features has released the official trailer for The Silent Twins, based on a fascinating true story. Letitia Wright (Black Panther) and Tamara Lawrance (Invasion) star as the siblings who communicated only with each other.

Author Marjorie Wallace was a journalist when she first heard the story of twins June and Jennifer Gibbons. Wallace pursued the story and met with the girls’ parents, and they allowed her to visit June and Jennifer’s room. There, she discovered the twins’ journals filled with diary entries, short stories, and poems. Marjorie Wallace then spent years visiting the twins after they were convicted of arson and committed to Broadmoor (a high-security psychiatric hospital in England).

“They desperately wanted to be recognized and famous through their writings, to have them published and to have their story told. And I thought that maybe one way of freeing them, liberating them, would be to unlock them from that silence,” explained Wallace in a 2015 interview with NPR.

The film is based on Wallace’s book that chronicles her encounters with the twins and the emergence of their personalities over time.

Agnieszka Smoczyńska directed and Andrea Seigel adapted Wallace’s book for the screen. Leticia Wright, Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska, Joshua Horsfield, Ben Pugh, Ewa Puszczyńska, Anita Gou, and Alicia Van Couvering produced.

Focus Features will release The Silent Twins in theaters on September 16, 2022.
