Disney’s released the first official photo from TRON: Ares, the third film in the TRON franchise. The first photo came without a detailed description of what we’re seeing but with a short statement from director Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil).

“I’m excited to be part of the TRON franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world. TRON: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology, and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid,” said Joachim Rønning.

Oscar winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) leads a cast that includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson. Leto, Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Emma Ludbrook, and Steven Lisberger serve as producers. Russell Allen is executive producing.

TRON: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings,” reads Disney’s synopsis.

Filming kicked off last month in Vancouver, with Disney targeting a 2025 theatrical release.

The original TRON starring Jeff Bridges opened in theaters in July 1982. With a budget of $17 million, the groundbreaking sci-fi action film grossed $50 million during its theatrical run. TRON: Legacy with Jeff Bridges and Garrett Hedlund had a $170 million budget and grossed $400 million worldwide following its December 2010 release.
