The official trailer for The Roku Channel’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story finds Weird Al (played with total commitment by Daniel Radcliffe) attempting to follow his dream of taking existing songs and changing their words. We’re also treated to Evan Rachel Wood channeling Madonna and suggesting Weird Al parody her “Like a Virgin” – which she admits she’s definitely not.
The cast also includes Abbott Elementary creator/star Quinta Brunson as Oprah Winfrey. Rainn Wilson (The Office) plays Dr. Demento, Julianne Nicholson (Mare of Easttown) is Mary Yankovic, Toby Huss (Dickinson) is Nick Yankovic, and Spencer Treat Clark (Animal Kingdom) is Steve Jay.
Weird Al co-wrote the film with Eric Appel (Die Hart, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and Appel is directing. Weird is produced by Funny Or Die and Tango.
The Weird Al biopic premieres at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival followed by a release on The Roku Channel on November 4, 2022.
