BTS Leader RM Releases ‘Indigo’ Album and a New Music Video

RM of the Grammy-nominated group BTS just released his highly anticipated solo album, Indigo. The leader of the global group is the second band member to release a solo album. J-hope released his album, Jack in the Box, in July of this year.

Just hours after its release, Indigo went number one on iTunes in close to 90 countries. That number’s expected to rapidly increase.

Indigo is described by RM as being a record of his 20s and a sincere introduction of who he truly is. Each track portrays his outspoken opinions, prevailing thoughts, and reminiscence of the past and instant feelings.

RM is no stranger to transcending boundaries, and his 10-track album includes a collection of collaborations with musicians in various genres. RM teamed up with Grammy winner Erykah Badu for the track “Yun.” The R&B and Neo Soul singer lends her soulful voice over a breezy R&B beat.

RM also teams up with Grammy winner Anderson .Paak for the track “Still life.” The lead single of Indigo is “Wild Flower” and finds RM collaborating with the lead singer of the Korean rock band, Cherry Filter Youjeen. “Wild Flower” is described by Big Hit Music as “RM’s desire to live like humble and tranquil wildflowers rather than a flame that quickly vanishes.”

Upon its release on multiple platforms, the lead single was accompanied by a music video that kicks off with fireworks viewed from above. One of the visual motifs, Nakhwa Nori, is a traditional folk game that involves hanging bags of oak charcoal powder in between lotus lanterns and lighting them on fire to watch the flames scatter down onto the water. The music video is highlighted by a captivating scene of flames from Nakhwa Nori falling toward the ground, heightening the message of the song.

RM led the overall album-making from writing the songs and lyrics to developing the concept of the album, designing the album art, and developing the music video.

The rapper kicked off promotions for Indigo by performing on NPR’s Tiny Desk where he opened with his song “Seoul” from his 2018 mixtape Mono. RM also performed “Yun” and “Still Life” from his just-released album.

RM won’t be slowing down any time soon. He’s co-hosting a show in South Korea, Useless Human Knowledge, and the first episode airs December 2, 2022 at 8:40pm KST.
