Twisted star Avan Jogia will play King Tutankhamun in Spike TV’s event series, Tut, joining Sir Ben Kingsley who’s already signed on to play Ay, the “Grand Vizier” to Tut. The series will be shot in Canada and Morocco and will air in 2015.

“We are thrilled to work with such an incredibly gifted young actor who is perfectly suited to take on the immensely complex character of King Tutankhamun,” said Sharon Levy, Executive Vice President, Original Series, Spike TV.

“Vancouver-born actor Avan Jogia will be an outstanding addition to the cast of Tut,” added Michael Prupas, CEO of Muse Entertainment. “Jogia is a hot young talent with a loyal following who has already made a name for himself in film and television.”

David Von Ancken is directing Tut from a script by Michael Vickerman. Vickerman, Von Ancken, Peter Paige, and Bradley Bredeweg. Joel S. Rice, Michael Prupas, Greg Gugliotta, Jeremy Elice, Angela Mancuso, and Sharon Levy are on board as executive producers.

Jogia’s upcoming projects include Ten Thousand Saints, Shangri-La Suite, and Outskirts.

The Plot: Thrust into power after the murder of his father, Tut is forced to marry his strong-willed, ambitious half-sister in order to maintain the dynasty. In love with a commoner, he struggles to protect her from the jealous queen. And although Tut rules as Pharaoh, he is exploited by a shrewd Prime Minister, a ruthless military General and a scheming High Priest (Alexander Siddig) who look down on him as someone they can control.

But through unexpected twists and turns, Tut strives to overcome the odds, rising from a manipulated prince into an unlikely hero who triumphs over his enemies both from within and without leading his kingdom to glory.
