Season four of Boardwalk Empire – thus far – is a red-hot mess, however HBO still has faith in the critically acclaimed drama. The network confirmed today Boardwalk Empire, which just earned five Emmys at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards, will be back for a fifth season.

Making the announcement, HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo stated: “Thanks to Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Howard Korder and their stellar team, Boardwalk Empire remains in a class by itself. I look forward to another electrifying season of this impeccably crafted series.”

The series was created by The Sopranos writer Terence Winter and Oscar winner Martin Scorsese. Season four kicked off on September 8, 2013 starring Steve Buscemi, Michael Shannon, Stephen Graham, Jack Huston, Jeffrey Wright, and Ron Livingston, and is averaging 7.5 million viewers.
