Disney and Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War continues to reign supreme at the box office, ringing up $112 million domestically over its second weekend in theaters. The comic book-inspired superhero film set a new record this weekend, making it past the $1 billion mark worldwide faster than any film in history. It also moved into 2nd place on the biggest second weekend chart behind only 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
With Avengers: Infinity War and A Quiet Place pulling in audiences, newcomers Tully and Bad Samaritan were left out in the cold. Neither film could muster double digit opening weekends. However, the weekend’s other new theatrical release – Overboard starring Eugenio Derbez and Anna Faris – performed better than anticipated. The remake of the 1987 romantic comedy which starred Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn brought in $14 million off a budget of $12 million-ish.
