Box Office Report: ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ Finally Hits #1

It took a few weeks but finally Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle made it to the number one spot at the box office. The action comedy starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan opened domestically on December 20, 2017 and has been playing second fiddle to Star Wars: The Last Jedi since its release. The first weekend of 2018 found a shift in positions, with the Jumanji sequel finally overcoming Star Wars. The latest installment in the Insidious film franchise, Insidious: The Last Key, was also able to outperform The Last Jedi, taking second place and sending Star Wars into third.

Insidious: The Last Key, the fourth film of the horror franchise, outperformed all but the second film of the series. Insidious: The Last Key grossed $29 million over its opening weekend while the first film, released in 2011, rang up $13 million and 2015’s Insidious Chapter 3 raked in $22.6 million.
