‘Catching Fire’ Gets a 2013 Release Date

Catching Fire

Whether you’re Team Peeta or Team Gale doesn’t matter as both sides are likely to greet the news of a confirmed release date for the second film of The Hunger Games franchise, Catching Fire, with equal amounts of enthusiasm. Lionsgate wants The Hunger Games fans to mark November 22, 2013 on their calendars as that’s when they’re hoping Catching Fire catches fire at the box office.

Suzanne Collins’ bestselling trilogy (The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay) provides the source material for four feature films, the first of which is currently in production. The heroes of Collins’ books – Katniss, Gale, and Peeta – will be brought to life in the film version by Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone), Liam Hemsworth (Thor star Chris Hemsworth’s little brother), and Josh Hutcherson.

Announcing Catching Fire‘s release date, Joe Drake – Co-COO of Lionsgate and President of its Motion Picture Group – said, “The magical thing about the Hunger Games trilogy is that the books have such a vastly broad appeal. The stories truly offer something for everyone, and the period around the Thanksgiving weekend is such an opportunity for families and friends to make an event of going to the movies.”

The Hunger Games is set for a March 23, 2012 release and is directed by Gary Ross (Seabiscuit).
