Gina Rodriguez is CinemaCon’s Female Star of Tomorrow

Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez has been tapped to receive the CinemaCon Female Star of Tomorrow Award during the National Association of Theatre Owners’ annual gathering in Las Vegas in April. The 2016 CinemaCon will take place April 11-14th at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, with Rodriguez set to pick up her Female Star of Tomorrow award during the Big Screen Achievement Awards on April 14th.


“Already a Golden Globe winner for her portrayal of Jane on Jane The Virgin, Rodriguez is set to become one of most sought after actresses in Hollywood as she continues to earn rave reviews for her performances on both the small and big screen,” stated Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon. “A formidable talent and an actress who is truly on the rise we could not be more thrilled to be able to honor her as this year’s ‘CinemaCon Female Star of Tomorrow'”

Rodriguez is being recognized for her upcoming role in Lionsgate/Summit’s Deepwater Horizon. The dramatic film based on true events is directed by Peter Berg and will open in theaters on September 30, 2016. The cast also includes Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Dylan O’Brien, and Kate Hudson. The film follows the true events “that occurred on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010, the story chronicles the courage of those who worked on the Deepwater Horizon and the extreme moments of bravery and survival in the face of what would become one of the biggest man-made disasters in world history.”

Gina Rodriguez’ credits include Tiny Dancer, Filly Brown, Sleeping with the Fishes, and the upcoming Annihilation with Natalie Portman and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
