All of the songs featured on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack were hits back in the ’60s and ’70s and not a single tune was recorded just for the film, which makes the soundtrack’s #1 position on the Billboard 200 chart a first among soundtracks. Most movie soundtracks contain at least one song written expressly for the movie, but Peter Quill’s Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is made up of classic tracks from David Bowie, Jackson 5, and The Raspberries.

Guardians of the Galaxy hit the #1 spot by selling 169,000, making it the second soundtrack this year to top the chart. Another Disney movie, Frozen, was the first.
