Details on ‘Covered’ By Macy Gray

Macy Gray Covered

Macy Gray’s handpicked a collection of songs to reinterpret for her upcoming album Covered set for release on 429 Records on March 27, 2012. The tracks were chosen by Gray from among indie rock songs of the past decade, and she’s bringing her own style to them as she has during her live performances of these tunes over the years.

Among the artists Gray covers in Covered are My Chemical Romance, Metallica, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The upcoming album also includes short skits featuring J.B. Smoove, Nicole Scherzinger, and Idris Elba.

429 Records also revealed that Macy Gray is planning a worldwide tour and has recently finished up work on the feature film The Paperboy directed by Lee Daniels and starring John Cusack, Zach Efron, Nicole Kidman, and Matthew McConaughey.

In the press release announcing the Covered track list, Macy shared why she was inspired by Nina Simone’s cover songs: “She didn’t worry about what people would think or how they would compare it to anybody else. I saw how she just took that song and every song she ever did and made them her own. So I went in with the confidence that we could do whatever we wanted.”
