At least one of the characters killed off during the season 12 finale of The CW’s Supernatural won’t be resurrected for season 13. Mark Sheppard, who has played Crowley since debuting the character in 2009 during season five, will not be returning as a series regular for the show’s 13th season. Sheppard confirmed his departure via an Instagram post in which he thanked the Supernatural family and said he’s moving on to something new.

Fan favorites Crowley and Castiel both died during the season 12 finale, however unlike Sheppard, Misha Collins has been giving fans a reason to be optimistic about Castiel’s return. Collins tweeted on May 20th that “Cas has a future.” Jared Padalecki also slipped up and mentioned Collins was part of the cast involved in the upcoming Supernatural/Scooby-Doo animated crossover in season 13.

Sheppard also posted this to Instragram a few days after the season 12 finale: “A “fitting” end to season 12. I wrote this line to sum up the feeling behind the finale. Surprise, surprise, it was cut. Seems so appropriate now! Im asking you again to join me in supporting a great cause. Thank you for all the love. xoxox represent.com/sheppard
