The Prince of Wales, a huge fan/longtime viewer of Doctor Who, was recently able to visit the BBC Cymru Wales Roath Lock Studios at Cardiff Bay in honor of the show’s 50th anniversary. The Prince of Wales, joined by the Duchess of Cornwall, toured the set and even learned how to fly TARDIS. They were also introduced to the Daleks and met with Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman (‘Clara’), and showrunner Steven Moffat.

Commenting on the Royal visit, Matt Smith said, “It was great to welcome The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall to set today. Showing them how to fly the TARDIS was a real treat and something I never thought I would be doing when I first took on the role. The Prince of Wales said he remembers watching the show when he was 15 and seemed very knowledgeable on the Who history, so it’s nice to think they are watching.”

“Meeting The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall today was such an honour,” added Jenna Coleman. “The Prince was particularly interested in the mechanics of how the TARDIS works and the storyline for the upcoming 50th anniversary special, but I didn’t give too many secrets away.”

The Prince of Wales was also treated to displays by the show’s costume designer, set decorator, and graphics artist.

Doctor Who‘s 50th-anniversary special is set to air on BBC America on November 23, 2013.
