The network’s live production will be executive produced by Marc Platt (Grease: Live, La La Land, Wicked), Adam Siegel, Julie Larson, Al Larson, Vince Totino, Scott Hemming, and Marla Levine. Fox says additional details, including cast news, will be announced at a later date.

Rent will air live at 7pm on the East Coast and will be tape-delayed for the West Coast, beginning at 7pm PT.

The award-winning Broadway musical was previously made into a feature film in 2005. Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) directed and Idina Menzel, Tracie Thoms, Taye Diggs, Rosario Dawson, Jesse L Martin, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, and Anthony Rapp starred in the theatrical release.

The Plot: A re-imagining of Puccini’s La Bohème, and set in New York City’s gritty East Village, Rent tells the unforgettable story of seven artists struggling to follow their dreams during a time of great social and political turmoil. After winning four Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize, writer/composer Jonathan Larson’s tour de force celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, as it continues to offer an inspiring message of hope and friendship.
